Attacking the news media is a time-honored White House tactic but to an unusual degree, the Obama administration has narrowed its sights to one specific organization, the Fox News Channel, calling it, in essence, part of the political opposition. Donald Trump and Stephen Bannon, just because you repeat these lies, it doesn't make them true. He accused the media of having zero integrity, zero intelligence and doing no hard work.

Before he joined Donald Trump's campaign, Bannon was the owner of Breitbart News.

The professor knows there are plenty of people who are frustrated by the media, fed up with fake news spread through social media, and the polarizing effect of some cable news outlets, but he says it is important to remember the historic role of the press, going back to our founding fathers.

AINSLEY EARHARDT: He said the media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for a while.

All that underlines his importance at Anfield, with Coutinho now rated as one of the best players in the Premier League. I believe in finding somewhere you can express yourself, play without fear, play with everything you have .

The Whitehouse press remains concerned and anxious as they wait and see how the Trump Administration will handle seating and access. When I was in that speech it was a sea of people, and they want to demean it. And the more the press tried to paint Trump as a cartoon, the more they lost the trust of moderates who leaned towards Trump for other reasons. Our job is to report on news, to fact check politicians, to express diverse opinions and to also give you a forum to communicate to the American people.

The bottom line is that Bannon knew his comments would enrage journalists, and that they would pound their desks and tweet passionately about how wrong he is, and redouble their efforts to make Trump the enemy. Newspapers go out of their way to try to get the facts right. When that happens, most of the time it is merely a honest mistake.

The first week of Donald Trump's presidency has been head-spinning, even for already whiplashed journalists. "I think it's just unbelievably frustrating".

Bannon's stunning indictment of the media establishment sent ripples throughout social media and among career journalists. "In a nationally televised press conference, Spicer called the press "dishonest", and accused it of purposefully trying to undermine Trump's commitment to unifying the country". Unless these two change their tone, which appears very unlikely, our only institution that can put a stop to such nonsense is the U.S. Congress.
