Rouhani says regional stability impossible without Iran

Iran's newly re-elected president has dismissed US President Donald Trump's calls for the region to isolate Tehran.

A handout picture provided by the office of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani shows him speaking at a conference in the capital Tehran.

The Iranian president highlighted the significance of national power, and stressed that such power is not realized by purchasing weapons, but rather through the nation's high turnout in national elections.

Iran's newly re-elected President Hassan Rouhani took barbed swipes at the US and its ally Saudi Arabia on Monday, hitting back at both a day after President Donald Trump used his first foreign trip to the kingdom to call for further isolation of Iran.

However, speculation has said that Trump may advise Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to go for closer Israel-Gulf state cooperation as part of an effort to resolve the Israel-Palestine conflict, but also to counter-balance Iranian regional influence.

"From Lebanon to Iraq to Yemen, Iran funds, arms and trains terrorists, militias and other extremist groups that spread destruction and chaos across the region", the U.S. president said.

Rouhani also dismissed the USA and Saudi governments' $110 billion dollar arms deal, saying: "You can't solve terrorism just by giving your people's money to a superpower".

Trump budget slashes safety-net programs
The budget includes $25 billion for a plan to give parents six weeks of paid leave after the birth or adoption of a child. The new budget also covers "mandatory" spending, including such big-ticket items as Medicare and Social Security.

On the arms deal, Rouhani added, "We don't need that".

In the expert's words, although Iran's Hassan Rouhani evidently won more votes in the last presidential election than during the previous elections, the Iranian citizens have growing expectations in regard to ensuring certain liberalization processes inside the country and achieving success in the economy sphere.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also noted that Trump's recent anti-Tehran remarks were aimed at "milking" Saudi Arabia.

"Americans resorted to many different methods against Iran but failed in all". The accord took effect in January 2016 and was supposed to terminate all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran all at once, but its implementation has been hampered due to USA policies.

South Africa views Iran as a strategic trading partner within the Middle East and Central Asian regions.

Speaking after meeting Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, Trump said the USA and Israel faced "common threats - from [Islamic State] and other terrorist groups, to countries like Iran that sponsor terrorism and fund and foment awful violence". "We hope Europe does not fall into the trap of countries that encourage their wrong interpretations of the region", Rouhani added.

"The Americans do not know our region, that's what the catch is", Rouhani said in response to a question from The Associated Press.
