Mexico hit by HUGE 6.9 earthquake at border with Guatemala

An quake with a magnitude of 6.9 has struck Guatemala, close to the country's border with Mexico.

Residents of the state are being urged to check their homes for structural damage after tremors measuring 6.7 in magnitude were felt along the Mexico-Guatemala border.

Prensa Libre in Guatemala reported one man was killed when part of a church wall fell on him and a woman died from a heart attack suffered during the natural disaster.

After reports of two deaths initially, three more people died of heart attacks sustained during the quake.

At least one person was hurt after a church collapsed in the tremor, but there have been no reported fatalities.

Scalise was shot , along with Williams' aide Barth and a former congressional aide turned lobbyist, Matt Mika. News reports said that in addition to Barth and Scalise, two Capitol Hill police officers were also shot.

Minor damages are being reported this morning in Chiapas after a 6.9-magnitude quake was recorded in Guatemala near the Mexican border.

The mountainous region is sparsely populated with communities scattered around the base of the dormant Tajumulco volcano.

Institute of Seismology spokesman Julio Sanchez said a 5.6-magnitude aftershock hit across the border in Mexico minutes after the quake.

The natural disaster also rattled the Guatemalan capital, waking residents but without causing damage there.
