Last September a "glitch" with the check-in systems saw thousands of passengers face huge delays.

The embattled airline said it was cancelling 13 short-haul flights from Heathrow Airport, Europe's busiest, but was aiming to operate a full long-haul schedule from the hub and was operating a full service from Gatwick Airport. BA was asking passengers not to turn up until 90 minutes before their flights because of the level of congestion at Heathrow.

Cruz released a video statement yesterday (28 May) on Twitter where he apologised for the IT failure which grounded planes from Heathrow and Gatwick and left thousands of passengers stranded.

British Airways has managed to restore some of its services at two major London airports - Heathrow and Gatwick - following a global blackout of the company's IT system that caused significant delays.

BA has said it will run a full schedule at Gatwick on Monday and it intends to operate a full long-haul schedule and a "high proportion" of its short-haul programme at Heathrow.

BA chief executive Alex Cruz had said it was believed "the root cause [of the computer problems] was a power supply issue".

'Dead Woman Walking': Amid Election Fallout, Theresa May Stands On Shaky Ground
Theresa May will meet DUP leader Arlene Foster on Tuesday after Number 10 mistakenly announced an agreement with the party. Downing Street says it hopes to finalize the deal next week, after Parliament resumes sitting.

Speaking to The Pat Kenny Show on Newstalk this morning, Sky News reporter Enda Brady said it has been a disaster weekend for the airline and, indeed, the passengers.

The airline earlier said that it does not have "a complete picture" of what caused the catastrophic IT outage that took down its systems in 170 airports across 70 different countries. "In 2016, BA made hundreds of dedicated and loyal IT staff redundant and outsourced the work to India", said Mick Rix, national officer for aviation at the union. Most travelers seemed resigned, he said, though others appeared stressed and some children were crying.

Eve Buechner, founder and CEO of refund.me, strongly urges affected travelers to claim compensation from the airline.

In all, FlightAware has tracked 580 British Airways flights canceled since Saturday.

British Airways is recovering from a major computer meltdown this weekend that forced the airline to ground its fleet in London.

She said that flight was cancelled, and another flight she rebooked for Sunday was also cancelled, while there was no sign or news of the couple's luggage.

Southwest Airlines canceled more than 1,500 flights following a system failure in July.
