Police identified the four as Australian Shaun Edward Davidson, 33, Bulgarian Dimitar Nikolov Iliev, 43, Indian Sayed Mohammed Said, 31, and Malaysian Tee Koko King bin Tee Kim Sai, 50.

Four foreign prisoners have tunnelled out of jail on Indonesia's tourist island of Bali, including an Australian man who was going to be freed within months, police said Monday.

Bali prison authorities confirmed that Mr Davidson, along with a Bulgarian, an Indian and a Malaysian, were missing after escaping through a 50ft-long "waste tunnel" under the prison. Below it was a hole, around 50cm by 75cm wide and 15 metres long, Kerobokan prison governor Tony Nainggolan said.

Davidson was sentenced in September 2016 to a year behind bars for using another person's passport.

Davidson had two months left of jail time to serve, Reuters reports.

"It turned out it was a tunnel leading to the street", he said.

Wall St higher at the open; Dow hits record high
The S&P 500 index showed 49 new 52-week highs and 10 new lows, while the Nasdaq recorded 99 new highs and 87 new lows. The Fed commentary last week had surprised investors who expected more caution after some weak USA economic data.

The four men were serving sentences for different crimes, from immigration rules violation to drug crimes, Widjaja said.

The notorious Kerobokan Prison has been home to many high-profile foreign criminals, including the so-called "Bali Nine" - eight men and a woman from Australia who were convicted in 2006 of smuggling heroin.

He had been due to face Perth Magistrates Court on January 28, 2015, charged with possessing methamphetamine and cannabis and two other offences.

He also has a warrant out for his arrest on drug offences in Perth. It's pretty hard for some of the locals in there, if they don't have any money, you don't eat.

Last week, dozens of inmates escaped from an overcrowded prison in western Indonesia after floods caused a wall to collapse. They don't give you any food, they don't give you a bed.
