Convicted killer Karla Homolka arrives at Greaves Adventist Academy

Federal politicians are expressing worries and calling for changes after CityNews in Montreal was the first to reveal that notorious serial killer Karla Homolka has been volunteering at the Montreal school her children attend. Her ex-husband, Paul Bernardo, is now serving a life sentence in prison for his role in the case.

Homolka was convicted of manslaughter when she was found to have been complicit in the rape and murder of three girls: Leslie Mahaffy, Kristen French, and her own younger sister Tammy Homolka. She was released in 2005 and married the brother of her attorney, with whom she has multiple kids, according to reports.

Seventh-day Adventist Church spokesperson Stan Jensen added: "The school board was fully aware of who she is".

The school has confirmed that Homolka is not a regular volunteer but that she brought a dog into the classroom for show and tell on one occasion and also accompanied students on a school field trip.

French, who was 15 at the time, was abducted by the couple while walking home from school in 1992 and held captive for three days before she was murdered.

"The school knew everything about Karla Homolka".

Bernardo was already a serial rapist by the time he married Homolka, but that once they got together, "there was some sort of synergistic energy" that made them more unsafe, Gregg O. McCrary, a former Federal Bureau of Investigation profiler who now runs a Virginia consulting firm told USA TODAY in a 2015 interview.

The school, which is operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, says it won't allow anyone with a criminal record to volunteer in any capacity on school grounds.

He said the land had been concreted over and it was the "devil's own job" to turn it into a garden. I set out in life to try and change things and bring about greater justice in our society.

In fact, one parent said administrators asked him not to send his child back to the school next semester after he complained about Homolka interacting with students.

In an interview with Niagara This Week on Thursday, Penner called the news of Homolka's school volunteering "absolutely insane".

In her letter, Penner listed things French will never be able to do: have a family, volunteer at her children's school, or "live the lovely life she was meant to live".

He said several parents are upset at learning she's been allowed anywhere near their kids.

"These are joys the [victim's families] will never enjoy because of Karla Homolka's participation with Paul Bernardo to murder their children", Danson said.

"We do not want her here", she said. He was declared a "dangerous offender", which made him unlikely to be released from prison, and so it baffles his victims' families why he had a parole hearing date set.

Homolka had been chatting in 2016 while she was in Chateauguay with her family.
