'Dead Woman Walking': Amid Election Fallout, Theresa May Stands On Shaky Ground

Foreign secretary Boris Johnson yesterday dismissed newspaper reports that he was preparing a bid for the Conservative leadership amid speculation that Ms May could be forced out within weeks.

On Sunday, Defense Secretary Michael Fallon was careful to state that the British Conservative party was not seeking a formal coalition with the DUP. A Downing Street spokeswoman declined to explain the discrepancy between the two.

"The last thing we need is further political upheaval so I am very clearly of the view that Theresa May has to stay on, she has to take us into that process, take us through that process", Transport Minister Chris Grayling, a Brexit campaigner and ally of May, told ITV on Sunday.

A 2010 election poster putting distance between the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) and their would-be bedfellows, The Conservatives, has gone viral. Conservative Party loyalists urged her to change her leadership style, while critics talked about her days being numbered."Theresa May is a dead woman walking". Labour, the main opposition party, won 262.

A stream of senior lawmakers entered her office at 10 Downing Street on Sunday afternoon, to learn what roles they had been given in government.

Theresa May will meet DUP leader Arlene Foster on Tuesday after Number 10 mistakenly announced an agreement with the party.

Downing Street says it hopes to finalize the deal next week, after Parliament resumes sitting.

Q: Coach Kerr said he kept telling his players they're going to run out of gas, they're going to run out of gas, stay with it. When they met last summer in NY to discuss the biggest decision of his career, neither side even focused on winning titles.

That timeline now looks even more ambitious than before, not least because May's electoral debacle has emboldened those within her own party who object to her "hard Brexit" approach of leaving the European single market and customs union.

However, calls for unity may fall on deaf ears as the Tory party face the aftermath of losing its parliamentary majority and an alliance with the DUP.

Meanwhile, a buoyant Corbyn was insisting he saw a route for Labour to form a government, although it was not clear how he would command the support of a majority of members of parliament given the electoral arithmetic.

"The prime minister has tonight spoken with the DUP to discuss finalising a confidence and supply deal when parliament returns next week", May's office said early Sunday.

"I can still be prime minister. If we make a mistake that leads to Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell getting their hands on power, this country will turn into Venezuela", he added.

Labour had not secured anywhere near enough House of Commons seats to form a government, even with support from potential allies such as the Scottish National Party and other smaller parties. "They want to see government providing that certainty and stability at what is a critical time for the country", she said.

"It is quite possible there will be an election later this year or early next year and that might be a good thing because we can not go on with a period of great instability", he told the BBC. This is the time for us to come together as a party", culture minister Karen Bradley told Sky News. But Soubry said May's time in the top job would be limited."I just can't see how she can continue in any long-term way.
