Dubose and Rowe barged into the couple's house and put guns to both of their heads. She said her cousin is not a monster. He said he didn't know how they got through the locked cage to overpower the guards.

Tarver said she last talked to Dubose when he visited her church in 2013.

Rowe, 43, and Dubose, 24, along with 31 other prisoners were headed to the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison, some 45 miles west of Eatonton, which is about half way between Atlanta and Augusta. Police believed the suspects then stole a second vehicle in Morgan County, Georgia, near a home where they were believed to have broken into to change clothes, authorities said Wednesday. They then fled the residence in a vehicle belonging to the couple, who managed to free themselves and call police shortly after.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said the fugitives took some food and likely some clothes, since they left their prison uniforms behind.

A photo of the two suspects after their capture was quickly shared by law enforcement and news agencies across the country.

Shots were fired on the officers, but deputies did not return fire, Rutherford County Sheriff Michael Fitzhugh said.

"I'm assuming and think it broke down on 'em, but they may have decided just to ditch it", Swing said.

On Thursday, officials said the two men were in custody following a auto chase in rush hour traffic through Rutherford County, Tennessee.

Without a auto, Rowe and Dubose walked up a hill and reached a home in Shelbyville, about 30 miles from the Georgia -Tennessee border. But the homeowner stepped out and held the men at gunpoint, with the assistance of another neighbor, until police arrived. The couple who live there spent the next three hours tied up while the fugitives ate their beef stew and pilfered their valuables.

But the Flint water crisis persists, now in its third year, because of poor leadership from the top of the House of Cards. She's charged with obstruction of justice - a felony - and lying to a police officer - a misdemeanor.

Sills said the men were "dangerous beyond description" and the search for them eventually became "the greatest effort I have ever seen". No one was injured in the incident. The pair then carjacked a driver who pulled up behind the bus, and fled in his Honda Civic along state Highway 16 in Putnam County, southeast of Atlanta. Sometime that night, a Ford F-250 was stolen in Morgan County. It is unclear which inmate shot and killed the two correctional officers.

"We will miss them deeply, and we can't replace them".

"We need the eyes and ears of everybody really in this country to be on the lookout for these two individuals", Sills said Thursday.

"Rest assured, justice will be served", Deal said.

The FBI promised a "comprehensive update" on the investigation at a Thursday news conference with state and local law enforcement officials in Madison.

The two men had been on the run since early Tuesday, when they are accused of having killed Sgt. Christopher Monica and Sgt. Curtis Billue.

"We will do everything in our power to support their loved ones, and we will not forget their sacrifice and service", Deal said. Billue will be buried Saturday and Monica on Tuesday. He was husband and father of two daughters.

Sgt. Curtis Billue was 58 years old and leaves behind two sons.
