Andy Murray finds his form to beat Del Potro

Tennis star Andy Murray beat Juan Martin Del Potro in the French Open Saturday, bringing an 84-minute set to a close and sending the Scottish athlete to the fourth round of the French Open, which enters its second week Sunday.

Murray of Great Britain will face the victor of the match between John Isner of the United States or Russian Karen Khachanov, next. "Whoever won that first set would have the momentum as it would have been very hard to come back in these heavy, slow conditions", said Murray. "You never know when you can win a set or a match, and that happened today".

Now the Argentine had the set at his bidding, but double faulted, then gave up another set-point, and it was Murray's turn again. The tie break was a real rollercoaster, Delpo had another 2 set points but in the end, it was Murray who stole it by 10-8 after 80 minutes of play.

The 28-year-old slumped over the net and stayed that way during most of the changeover to catch his breath.

Murray was broken in the third game when he made a hash of a backhand lob, but then started to make inroads against the Argentinian's serve.

Murray seized his lifeline, a fourth ace giving him a two-set lead.

While Murray won that affair too - and their only previous Slam meeting - Del Potro had triumphed in their most recent clash, so the Scot was alert to the dangers.

Curfew, restrictions continue in Kashmir
His death led to months of protests and a security lockdown during which at least 90 people were killed and thousands injured. A civilian was also killed allegedly in cross firing between militants and security forces during the encounter yesterday.

Del Potro's venomous forehand was a sight to behold and he was still able to leave Court Philippe Chatrier to a rousing ovation with his head held high on a day seven curtailed by rain.

"Andy is one of the smartest guys on the circuit".

Meanwhile, former champion Stan Wawrinka is through to the fourth round with a 7-6 (2) 6-0 6-2 win against Italian Fabio Fognini.

Croatian seventh seed Cilic will next meet South Africa's Kevin Anderson who beat Britain's Kyle Edmund 6-7 (6/8), 7-6 (7/4), 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 in just under four hours. He slotted a pass down the line to bring up break points, only to hit a forehand long, but he soon had another break chance, and this time converted it, 5-5.

Fernando Verdasco of Spain defeated 22nd-seeded Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay 6-2, 6-1, 6-3 and will face the victor of the match between eighth-seeded Kei Nishikori of Japan and Hyeon Chung of South Korea.

Khachanov, born in Moscow but based in Barcelona, is through to the last 16 at a slam for the first time.

Murray arrived in Paris unsure what to expect of himself after a poor run of form on clay but his prospects for matching last year's run to the final suddenly look a lot brighter. Garcia fell out with her teammates after severing her successful doubles relationship with Kiki Mladenovic, before pulling out of Fed Cup duty in April. But mentally I feel pretty good just now.

In the women's singles, Romania's third-seeded Simona Halep advanced to the fourth round, where she will compete with Spanish Carla Suarez for a place in the quarter-finals, reports Efe.
