Grenfell Tower fire survivors are to be re-homed in a housing development where prices start at nearly £1.6 million, Communities Secretary Sajid Javid has announced, as inquests were opened into the deaths of five people killed in the disaster.

Residents now living in temporary accommodation following last Wednesday's devastating blaze will be rehoused in 68 new flats just off Kensington High Street.

At least 79 people lost their lives due to the blaze that destroyed the 24-story tower block in the Kensington district of the city last Wednesday, according to the London Metropolitan Police.

A website for the new development says it is "one of London's most sought after new addresses" and includes a swimming pool, sauna, cinema and gym.

"Work is ongoing to identify the needs of those affected who have lost their homes and match them to suitable housing", said the Department for Communities and Local Government in a statement.

All are new social housing flats and are expected to be offered up to permanently rehouse residents from Grenfell Tower. He also said that survivors are now being assessed for their housing needs, and they will be rehoused in Kensington and Chelsea or a neighbouring borough.

Families who escaped the London tower blaze will be able to take up permanent occupation in July and August in the apartments in the Kensington Row scheme about 2.4km south of Grenfell.

Justices take on fight over partisan electoral maps
A lower court ruled that the maps were unconstitutional, and mandated the state come up with different maps by November 1. They said the federal court overstepped its bounds and judges should stay out of an inherently political exercise.

"The ward where this fire took place is, I think, the poorest ward in the whole country and properties must be found - requisitioned if necessary - to make sure those residents do get rehoused locally".

However, Victoria Vasey, director of the North Kensington Law Centre, told the media that because of the irregular property tenancies in the building, it was impossible to accurately know how many people were in the building at the time of the blaze.

The homes will be a mixture of one, two and three bedroom flats across two blocks. It is not yet clear if the Grenfell residents will have access to the facilities, which are normally not included for those in affordable housing.

The government said that extra construction staff have been hired and are working around the clock to fast-track completion of the development.

Mr Holgate said: "Serving the families so desperately affected by the heart-breaking tragedy at Grenfell Tower remains the highest priority of the council".

The local council, which oversees the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, owns Grenfell Tower.

"We submitted those to our local authority who have in turn submitted them to a central location in Westminster, is all I know, who are not sifting through the list", he said.
