7 things to know now: Sessions to testify; Rodman in North Korea; Cosby deliberations continue

Hours after his arrival, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson announced that North Korea had released an American student serving a 15-year prison term with hard labor for alleged anti-state acts.

Had Kim Jong Un, a 90s basketball fanboy, traded a high profile American prisoner for a chance to play NBA Jam with his boyhood hero?

A plane carrying Warmbier arrived late Tuesday at an airport in Cincinnati.

North Korea regularly accuses Washington and Seoul of sending spies to overthrow its government to enable the US -backed South Korean government to take control of the Korean Peninsula.

Warmbier's release came as former US basketball star Dennis Rodman arrived in North Korea on Tuesday, returning to the nuclear-armed country where he met leader Kim Jong Un on previous visits.

Mr Warmbier was released on Tuesday but had to be medically evacuated from the country after it emerged he had been in a coma since he was jailed. Sadly, he is in a coma and we have been told he has been in that condition since March of 2016.

"Warmbier's parents hadn't heard from or seen him since he was sentenced and found out just last week that their son had been in a coma for nearly a year".

Earlier this week, Defence Secretary James Mattis testified to Congress that North Korea was the "most urgent" threat against the safety and security of the United States.

Bill Richardson says there should be an investigation into what happened to an American college student who was imprisoned in North Korea and was returned to his home state of OH in a coma.

A hospital spokeswoman didn't provide an update on his condition.

"We want the world to know how we and our son have been brutalized and terrorized by the pariah regime" in North Korea, they added.

He thus became only the third player in National Hockey League history to win the award in consecutive seasons. Never mind that his season started nearly nine months earlier with a World Cup of Hockey pre-tournament game.

USA student Otto Warmbier said he was "a poor scapegoat" before he was jailed in 2016. The Warmbiers said they were told their son has remained in a coma since then.

After North Korea accelerated its nuclear and ballistic-missile testing programs in recent months, the Trump administration declared an end to the Obama-era policy of "strategic patience", which aimed to force Pyongyang to freeze its nuclear program through economic sanctions and diplomatic isolation.

The U.S. government condemned the sentence and accused North Korea of using such American detainees as political pawns.

Yun arrived on Monday, visited Warmbier with two doctors and demanded his release, the official said.

Little is known about Mr. Warmbier's ordeal in North Korea, where the government refused for more than a year to allow access to him by Swedish consular officials, who act as interlocutors between Washington and Pyongyang. They all are naturalized Americans of Korean ethnicity.

Rodman said the issue of several Americans detained by North Korea is "not my objective right now", in remarks made in Beijing before the release of Warmbier was publicly disclosed. His parents told The Post that North Korean representatives suddenly informed USA officials last week that the student was in a coma.

People in the OH hometown of a college student released by North Korea said they are pleased he is back and expressed hopes for his recovery as he remained in a coma.

As those close to him waited for news about his health, people nationally and internationally wondered how his condition - and the lack of information about it for so long - would affect tense relations between the United States and North Korea. A video captured him being led away to prison, dazed, stumbling and flanked by two North Korean guards. "Otto should have been released from the start", said US Sen.

Department of State spokeswoman Heather Nauert told reporters Rodman had nothing to do with Warmbier's release.

"It was very North Korean", noted one pundit on CNN.

"With tensions as high as they are, we felt that we needed to talk about Otto and put a face on the person", Cindy Warmbier said.
