Michigan's attorney general announced Wednesday that the head of the state's health department and four others have been charged with involuntary manslaughter for their role in the years-long Flint water crisis.

Liane Shekter-Smith, drinking water chief of the MI department of environmental quality. It was one those deaths that led to the involuntary manslaughter accusations, Bill Schuette, Michigan's attorney general, said Wednesday.

The announcement of the new charges comes a day after Flint activists delivered over 1,000 water bottles to the office of Snyder, each filled with a letter from a Flint resident saying what he or she feels is owed by the governor as a result of the water crisis.

Flint Mayor Karen Weaver said it's about time.

Schuette is a Republican who is widely seen as a possible candidate for governor of MI in 2018.

"Beyond confirming employment status, as a department we're not able to comment on the specifics of personnel decisions", Eisner said in an email to MLive-The Flint Journal.

RICK SNYDER: Nick Lyon and Dr. Wells have been and continue to be fully committed to Flint's recovery. It asserted that Lyon "willfully disregarded the deadly nature" of the Legionnaires' outbreak and "exhibited gross negligence when he failed to alert the public about the deadly outbreak and by taking steps to suppress information illustrating obvious and apparent harms that were likely to result in serious injury".

It is also challenging for people who don't speak English to take advantage of the resources, she says, even legal residents or US citizens. "We have cooperated with many in the investigation including a congressional committee, a state joint committee and the special counsel's office", his attorney, Charles Chamberlain said.

Neither he nor his attorney would answer questions from reporters after the arraignment.

Jessica Chastain in negotiations for villainous role in DARK PHOENIX
Even if you consider yourself a loyal disciple of Fox's lucrative mutant franchise, the X-Men lore can be hard to parse. Last week, reports emerged that X-Men: Dark Phoenix will finally embrace the cosmic side of Marvel's mutant heroes.

She's charged with obstruction of justice - a felony - and lying to a police officer - a misdemeanor. Former Flint emergency manager Darnell Earley and three other state officials who have already been charged with other crimes now also face involuntary manslaughter charges. "You'll have to show that it wasn't just doing a bad job, but doing a really bad job that is so far outside the norm that a jury can say this is reckless".

Schuette says he is not charging Snyder.

Lyon was aware of the Legionnaires' outbreak in Genesee County at least one year before he informed the public, according to court documents.

But the Flint water crisis persists, now in its third year, because of poor leadership from the top of the House of Cards.

Stephen Busch, former district coordinator for the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality office of drinking water, previously charged with misconduct, tampering, and related charges, after being accused of violating the Safe Water Drinking Act, and ordering a local official to manipulate water samples. He was admitted to McClaren Flint hospital in June 2015 with symptoms consistent with pneumonia.

Schuette's office has levied 51 charges against 15 present and former officials, while suing two water engineering firms accused of professional negligence in failing to help prevent the crisis.

"You're labeling people as killers", said Peter Henning, a Wayne State University criminal law professor.

Mike Glasgow, former Flint Water Treatment Plant Operator, was allegedly pressured by Croft to start using the Flint Water Treatment Plant. But the attorneys both told the newspaper that they would contest the charges.
