Manchester City complete signing of Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson

Benfica goalkeeper Ederson is closing in on a move to Manchester City

Despite his burgeoning reputation and an inevitably eye-watering transfer fee, Ederson has less worldwide experience than Burnley's Tom Heaton.

Despite finishing higher than their city rivals in the league this past season, manager Pep Guardiola had a number of goalkeeping issues to deal with.

In 27 league appearances this season, Ederson kept 17 clean sheets and conceded a meagre 12 goals. His form was rewarded with a call-up to the Brazilian national side, although he is still yet to make his worldwide debut.

Pep Guardiola is looking for alternative options between the sticks after deciding to let Willy Caballero leave at the end of his contract. Hart has spent the 2016-17 season on loan at Torino in Italy. Big-money bids for Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker, Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk and Monaco's Benjamin Mendy are also expected.

But Starsport understands the move is being held up because of the complexities of the Brazilian's third-party ownership agreement.

There is no ACC rule barring a graduate transfer from being immediately eligible after moving within the league. Johnson was a coveted graduate transfer, having two years of eligibility left after graduating early.

They may be commonplace around the world but such situations are not allowed in English football.

Ederson went back to the Estadio Luz in the summertime of 2015 as well as went on to win two organization titles and also 3 cups with the Lisbon-based side.

So, while a fee is agreed and salary confirmed, this transfer will not be concluded until everyone - including the Premier League - is satisfied. Happily, given recent developments, he offered a tentative preference for the Etihad Stadium although, at the time at least, he was not contemplating any kind of transfer.

Moraes underwent a medical earlier this week and has reportedly signed a five-year deal. Quick in speed of thought but calm on the ball, he bears a remarkable resemblance in style to Manuel Neuer. "He is a great goalkeeper and if I can play with him in the next season I will be very happy".

The proposed fee is in the region of £45m, which would be a world record for a 'keeper.
