S. Korea investigates THAAD launchers delivery

Moon Meets with Ex-UN Chief Ban

South Korea's presidential Blue Office confirmed that the nation's defense ministry officials deliberately dropped mentioning that four more launchers had been deployed for the controversial U.S. THAAD missile defense system in their report to the new administration. Given the revelation that the Defense Ministry hurried to deploy THAAD before the presidential election and then tried to hide related information after power changed hands, there will nearly certainly be an investigation of the entire process of the previous administration's reckless deployment of THAAD.

Former conservative presidents Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye posted 52 percent and 44 percent in support scores in their early presidency.

Yoon said senior Defense Ministry officials didn't report the arrival of the additional launchers when they gave Moon's policy advisory committee a briefing last Thursday. "I explained the basic stance of the South Korean government on THAAD and provided a detailed explanation of the developments over the past few days [to the US] to ensure there were no misunderstandings", Blue House National Security Office Chief Chung Eui-yong told reporters at the Dulles International Airport in Virginia on June 2.

South Korea's civil society groups gathered outside the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Korea (ROK) in Seoul on Wednesday to protest the unauthorised transportation of components of the U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system into the country. "I explained that the measures being taken by the South Korean government could take some time, and the U.S. response was that that was perfectly understandable", he said.

It means that the Defense Ministry not only deliberately omitted details in a report, but also attempted to damage and hide the information.

Bacsinszky is obviously the more experience player in these type of matches and has had to work less to get to this point. The last woman representing France to win the country's Grand Slam tournament was Mary Pierce in 2000.

Also scheduled to attend the IISS security summit is South Korean Defense Minister Han Min-koo. However, Han expressed no knowledge of the matter, saying "Was there such a thing?"

The ruling Democratic Party refuted the accusation, emphasizing that information of such magnitude should have been officially reported to the president.

In April, the first two launchers and a radar system were placed in the THAAD base after arriving in the country in March.

"My order for a probe on Thaad is purely a domestic measure and I want to be clear that it is not about trying to change the existing decision or sending a message to the United States", Moon told visiting US Senator Dick Durbin late on Wednesday (31 May). But Seoul and Washington's agreement was to deploy one full-size six-launcher battery in South Korea.
