Fred Warmbier praised the Trump administration's efforts: "They have our thanks for bringing Otto home".

"His spirit is with us and I can share his spirit with my spirit", said Warmbier, who was wearing the very same light-colored blazer his son wore during his trial in North Korea in March 2016.

Warmbier said his son, who was in stable condition according to the OH hospital where he was transferred, was subjected to brutal treatment.

At this time, Warmbier has yet to say anything, though, he remains in a state of unresponsive wakefulness.

When asked by Fox News what he would tell the families of those detained, Fred Warmbier said, "I wouldn't know what to say to them".

"We [the Warmbier family] are not burdened with whatever North Korea says or does at this point", Warmbier added later when answering a reporter's question. The comatose student's condition is stable, but he suffered a "severe neurological injury", according to a spokesperson from the medical facility where Warmiber is receiving care. "Otto, I love you so much, I'm insane about you and I'm so glad you're home".

Warmbier can open his eyes and blink but has no signs of understanding language or responding to commands, Kanter said.

"North Korea has proven they are not nature's noble men", said Fred Warmbier, acknowledging that he can now speak freely.

Instead, after conducting an extensive battery of neurological tests, the physicians determined Warmbier suffered severe brain damage while detained in North Korea.

Fred Warmbier wore the jacket Otto wore when he made a confession in front of the North Koreans.

Warmbier didn't give any medical update on his son and pointed out that there will be a press conference later in the day Thursday in which doctors will give an update on his son's medical condition.

Richardson, a Democrat, credited the State Department with securing Warmbier's return without any preconditions but said a forceful response from the USA government would be required "if it's determined that there was a cover-up and Otto's condition was not disclosed and he didn't get proper treatment". "He's in a coma and the North Koreans have a lot of explaining to do especially since he might have been in a coma for a year".

"We've been meeting with the North Koreans urging the release". It has been widely speculated that Warmbier's injuries were sustained from beatings from North Korean officials, however, the evidence thus far does not support that. Yun traveled to Pyongyang June 12 on a private aircraft with a medical team to begin the negotiations.

"Since March 2nd, no one has seen or heard from Otto".

Several UC Medical Center physicians, including Daniel Kanter, MD; Jordan Bonomo, MD; and Brandon Foreman, MD, addressed the media Thursday.

North Korea's highest court sentenced Warmbier, a 21-year-old University of Virginia undergraduate student, from Wyoming, Ohio, to 15 years in prison with hard labor on Wednesday for subversion.

Dawning the tan blazer the Otto wore during this confession, Warmbier called the confession "an unbelievable performance".

Richardson expressed concerned that Rodman is the possible interlocutor with Kim, but said, "He may be the only game in town". "To be honest, I had avoided conversations with him because to what end I'm dealing with my son".

They kept quiet "on the false premise that (North Korea) would treat Otto fairly and let him go", he said.
