From landslide for May to upset defeat - scenarios for UK election

Beleaguered British Prime Minister Theresa May is appointing new members of her government after several of them lost their seats in Parliament in this week's general election that proved disastrous for her Conservative Party.

"The "we can walk without a deal" strategy now looks completely dead", said Patrick Dunleavy, professor of political science at the London School of Economics.

The Tories needed 326 seats to win another majority but they fell short and must rely on the DUP to continue to rule.

The Democratic Unionist is the largest party in the Northern Ireland assembly, securing 10 MPs in this general election. She is seeking a so-called confidence and supply deal, which would involve the DUP supporting the Conservatives on key votes but not joining a formal coalition.

Downing St. said the Cabinet will discuss the agreement on Monday.

Media commentators agreed she had been badly damaged, and some predicted she and her strategy for Brexit could struggle to survive. DUP leader Arlene Foster told Sky News she would meet May at Downing Street on Tuesday.

May succeeded Cameron last June in the wake of the surprise outcome of the Brexit referendum on leaving the European Union.

May's pitch to the eurosceptic rightwing of the Conservative Party has nudged Britain closer to a "hard Brexit", in which it may cut ties with Brussels at the cost of damaging itself economically by losing access to the lucrative single European market, say analysts.

"I can still be prime minister".

"This is not the time for sharks to be circling".

Without a majority, she could be forced to seek consensus on the approach she takes, potentially by performing a U-turn on single market membership and protecting the economy at the expense of new immigration controls.

"I'm afraid we ran a pretty awful campaign", Soubry said.

James is not Jordan and Durant is the difference
But the Durant-led Warriors are not the 2016 Warriors, which seems to shorten the window on James delivering more championships. He has been in this league for a long time and he's, I think, at the top of his game at the biggest time".

Theresa May was clinging to power last night but at the mercy of her cabinet, opponents in her party and the ten Democratic Unionist Party MPs she needs to form a minority government.

Johnson tweeted that an article in the Mail on Sunday newspaper headlined "Boris set to launch bid to be PM as May clings on" was "tripe".

- Make your thoughts on the deal known.

The arrangement with the DUP will make governing easier, but it makes some Conservatives uneasy.

"Just to be clear, we will act in the national interest". And I want to encourage all Conservatives to come through this hard period, unite behind the Prime Minister, and focus on the need to heal the divisions in our country.

In Northern Ireland, the party defines itself by its support of the United Kingdom.

"In part this is due to the reluctance of May and Corbyn to reopen the debate, instead centring on who is best to negotiate".

This is seen as a vote of confidence, and if it is not passed then the government will fall and Mr Corbyn will get his opportunity to form a government and purse his socialist policies in power.

"I can still be prime minister. Absolutely", he told the Sunday Mirror.

Mr Corbyn also barbed that the Prime Minister was taking Britain "back to the seventies", a charge that was levelled at the Labour leader throughout the campaign.

He told the show: 'We are going to put down a substantial amendment to the Queen's Speech which will be contained within it the in points of our manifesto, so we will invite the House to consider all the issues we have put forward which I've mentioned - jobs-first Brexit, mention the issues of young people and austerity, there's many other things'.

"I could not care less what people get up to in terms of their sexuality, that's not a matter for me, when it becomes a matter for me is when people try to redefine marriage".
