UK Labour Leader Corbyn: 'I Can Still Be Prime Minister'

What Is a Hung Parliament? UK Elections Exit Polls Predicts May to Lose Majority, so What Happens Next?

Britain's typically right-wing press savaged May over the election outcome, questioning whether she will be able to remain in power after a result that leaves her reliant on uniting rival factions within her party to deliver Brexit.

As she battled to form her cabinet amid depleted resources, May made clear there would be no major changes.

A deal between the government and the DUP could also unsettle the precarious balance between Northern Ireland's British loyalist and Irish nationalist parties, whose power-sharing administration in Belfast collapsed earlier this year. One regional election is still not final. She called Thursday's snap election in a bid to strengthen her hand ahead of hard divorce negotiations with the European bloc.

Labour party Leader Jeremy Corbyn gives a thumbs up as he arrives at Labour Party headquarters in central London, June 9, 2017.

The objective of calling elections, having assured that there would be no election before the schedule one in 2020, after she took over as the party leader previous year, Theresa May had hoped to strengthen her party's grip on power to be able to successfully negotiate Britain's exit from the EU.

With 650 MPs in Parliament, 326 seats are needed for an absolute majority in the House of Commons. It is good as far as it's gone but it's not going to be good enough. "And make way for a government that will be truly representative of all of the people of this country". It will take time - and probably another election - for matters to be resolved.

Sen. Bernie Sanders congratulated Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party he leads for what's being called one of the most stunning upsets in United Kingdom political history.

The election results create uncertainty surrounding the negotiations over Britain's exit from the European Union.

May confirmed she meant to start talks with the Europeans on June 19 as planned, promising to "get to work".

Reuters reports that Gunther H. Oettinger, a European Commission budget and human resources commissioner, expressed doubt about the talks starting as planned.

The Prime Minister's campaign was widely criticised for not engaging with voters and stumbling on key issues. "Time for everyone to regroup".

He added that Labour still lost the election, leaving his Nottingham East constituency with a Conservative government "they do not need" and the party with questions about how to convince voters it can move from "protesting about a government into being the government".

"We are ready for the negotiations". The EU does not want to delay Brexit.

It is fair to say, this is not the result that many were expecting.

Splash News/NewscomTheresa May's Conservative Party ended up losing 13 seats in Britain's elections yesterday.

The Scottish National Party lost more than 20 seats to knock the party down to 35 seats, according to the BBC. She repeatedly touted her "strong and stable leadership" throughout the campaign, but the voters weren't buying her as a strong and stable figure.

"I don't think Theresa May and this government have any credibility".

The broadcaster said Sturgeon was "disappointed at the SNP losses".

Cameron assumed that the British voters would ratify Britain's continued membership in the European Union and thus allow him to silence so-called Euroskeptics within his own party. I said at the start this election was wrong.
