In the wake of President Trump's announcement last Thursday to pull out of the Paris Climate Agreement, Governors Andrew Cuomo, Jerry Brown, and Jay Inslee, of New York, California and Washington, respectively, have joined forces to form an alliance to pursue the policies agreed back in 2015.

Many states will have their governor's seats up for election in the next year and a half, so future governors could join or leave the Climate Alliance.

This new coalition will be called the United States Climate Alliance, and the three states that form it account for more than a fifth of the United States' population.

Mr. Trump announced Thursday that he is pulling the US out of the Paris agreement, which was one of President Obama's major achievements in office.

The governors' announcement comes a week after Republican President Donald Trump said he is withdrawing the United States from the Paris compact, an agreement involving almost 200 nations aimed at slowing the warming of the planet.

Meanwhile, former champion Stan Wawrinka is through to the fourth round with a 7-6 (2) 6-0 6-2 win against Italian Fabio Fognini. The 28-year-old slumped over the net and stayed that way during most of the changeover to catch his breath.

"I am proud to join this bipartisan group of governors and reaffirm Vermont's commitment to fighting climate change through the U.S. Climate Alliance". Puerto Rico has also pledged support.

Trump's latest move on climate change came after he signed an executive order on March 28 that directed agencies to rescind any pending rules and regulations related to the Climate Action Plan and instructed the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to review and potentially withdraw Obama's signature rule, the Clean Power Plan.

The U.S. Climate Alliance will also act as a forum to sustain and strengthen existing climate programs, promote the sharing of information and best practices, and implement new programs to reduce carbon emissions from all sectors of the economy.

The pact is aimed at combating climate change around the world and helping nations adapt to its effects by requiring countries to present plans to reduce carbon emissions.
