Ford's newest police pursuit vehicle isn't a auto at all

Ford Motor Co (F) has released the first-ever Police Pursuit-Rated F-150 pickup truck built specifically to meet demands of law enforcement.

There is no word about Ford offering a consumer version of this package.

Plenty of crooks have attempted to leave the police in their dust by ditching the pavement and going off-road, but Ford's latest police-only pursuit vehicle is ready to give them a run for their money.

Additional F-150 Police Responder enhancements include a police-calibrated brake system with upgraded calipers and pad friction material, upgraded front-stabiliser bar for improved braking and handling and 18-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tires.

Note to baddies: the police pickup is based on the F-150 FX4 off-roader and is capable of speeds up to 100 miles per hour thanks to the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 sitting under its black and white hood. It's linked to a 10-speed automatic transmission and, of course, four-wheel drive for all the traction it needs.

The truck has a versatile 5-1/2′ box for cargo and a Class IV trailer hitch is standard, with a Trailer Tow Package available.

Panthers release OT Michael Oher with failed physical designation
Michael Oher, a former first-round pick and the focus of the popular sports movie, The Blind Side , is out of a job. The former Pro Bowl offensive lineman joined the Panthers in 2015 after brief stint with the Tennessee Titans .

Moving onto the interior, police officers will find a column-mounted shifter and heavy-duty cloth front seats with anti-stabbing plates. The floors are heavy-duty vinyl too, for easy cleaning.

Ford has revealed the first pickup truck specially designed for police.

A high-output 240-amp alternator helps power the onboard computer and other devices, as well as a police-calibrated speedometer and meters to track engine hours and idling time.

Engineered for on- and off-road terrain, the Responder will be suitable for use in rural environments such as those patrolled by sheriff departments, border patrol or fish and game authorities.

Recently, some police departments have pulled Ford Explorer-based police vehicles from service because of concerns over carbon monoxide leaks.

In contrast the F-150 Police Responder is unlikely to be so frugal.
