Huawei's Special Edition KFC Smartphone For China Is Finger Lickin' Good

KFC Branded Smartphone Coming Soon

It could be the reason why Huawei and KFC have partnered to create....a KFC phone.

KFC opened its first restaurant in the country in Qianmen just a few minutes walk from Tiananmen Square in Beijing in November 1987, reports CNBC.

One other notable feature of the KFC smartphone is its KFC-branded music app.

Every so often, smartphone makers release special editions of their flagship handsets, whether to try to capture a piece of the popularity of a person or major trend or to commemorate a major event.

The new device is being launched to celebrate the 30th anniversary of KFC entering China, so it's no clucking surprise local mega-corp Huawei was plucked out as the manufacturer of choice. This isn't the first time KFC has gone high-tech to hold onto its customer base in China.

Taylor report calls for greater protection for gig economy workers
The document recommends that workers in firms such as Deliveroo be given the status of "dependent contractors" and this should carry benefits.

Not only do the Chinese love KFC's food, but they also love their smartphones, which is probably where the marketing idea for the Huawei KFC phone came from.

As for specs, there's a 5-inch display, a Snapdragon 425 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. KFC has a shop on e-commerce giant Alibaba Group's TMall platform, where it already sells food deals that you can pick up in-store, so that might be a possible sales channel.

The KFC Huawei 7 Plus is a limited edition smartphone that comes with a bright red case that has Colonel Sanders and the Huawei logo on the back.

But the brand synergy doesn't just stop there: KFC's app will get an exclusive feature in China called K-music, which lets users listen to curated music when inside a KFC restaurant.

We do not yet know whether the new phone is, in fact, a previous model launched by Huawei, or whether the hardware will be made especially for this anniversary edition.
