"Since my childhood days when I dreamt of playing for India I had one goal and that is to take Indian cricket to greater heights", Ashwin said at the end of the first Test against Sri Lanka. India registered biggest win overseas.

After the tea break, India made short work of proceedings.

7 - This was Virat Kohli's first ton after 7 innings, his last being the double century against Bangladesh earlier this year. Following the trend, Virat Kohli denied follow-on. Kusal Mendis did try and provide some support to Karunaratne as the two put on 79 for the third wicket. But Abhinav Mukund held things tight and scored a fine 81, only his second fifty in seven Tests. "In the first innings, he didn't get opportunity to bowl much but I think in the second innings, he bowled really nicely on a wicket that wasn't offering much and he kept it in the right areas", he said.

Finger injuries ruled out Rangana Herath and Asela Gunaratne as India needed eight wickets to start the series on a winning note. Overall, he faced 166 deliveries and hit 9 fours.

Dewane of Venice, Florida, urged senators of both parties to "work together to advance changes that serve the common good". McConnell put the health bill on hold and announced that the Senate would move onto other legislation next week.

Opener Dimuth Karunaratne and stumper Niroshan Dickwella provided some resistance by scoring 97 and 67 respectively but Ashwin (3/65) and Jadeja (3/71) dominated with the ball to clinically dismantle the hosts on the penultimate day itself. Ricky Ponting also won three Tests when Australia whitewashed Sri Lanka 3-0 in 2003-2004.

Four overs later, Mendis was caught behind off Ravindra Jadeja (2-42) as the DRS review was turned in India's favour, this time an edge clearly detected off the batsman.

Starting from overnight 189 for 3, Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane (23 batting) showed urgency to score runs.

The century ended a poor run in Tests for Kohli, who hit five boundaries and one six in his 136-ball knock, with the 28-year-old totalling a meagre 49 runs in his last six innings. It was the second highest target set by India in a Test after 617 versus New Zealand at Wellington in 2009. In the process, Kohli also managed to complete his 17 Test match hundred, with it ending a bit of a slump he had gone through in the longest format of the game. Pacer Mohammed Shami returned figures of 2/45 while Umesh Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin and Hardik Pandya bagged a wicket each. With his century, Virat became the fastest among Indian captains to reach 1000 runs on foreign soil, breaking Sachin Tendulkar's previous record who took 19 innings while Kohli achieved the milestone in 17.
