UK surgeon finds 27 missing contact lenses in woman's eye

The discovery of the 27 lenses in the eye came as a shock to the woman as well.

For the last 35 years, the patient had been wearing monthly contacts and hadn't been prudent with all her scheduled eye appointments.

As someone who wears contacts, I know how irritated and uncomfortable my eyes feels when the contact I am wearing is pretty worn out and needs to be changed for a new one.

An operating team at Solihull Hospital, near Birmingham, England, discovered "a blueish mass" of 17 contact lenses clumped together while preparing for the cataract surgery.

The paper says the patient had "deep set eyes" which might explain how the "unusually large" number of contacts could have been stuck.

She added that she hopes this situation will serve as a lesson, according to Optometry Today, since so many people often avoid undergoing routine eye examinations now that contact lenses can easily be ordered online.
