Egypt's railway authority said an express train had crashed into the second train near the Khurshid station on the Cairo-Alexandria line.

Figures recently released by the state's statistics agency show that 1,249 train incidents took place a year ago - the highest number since 2009 when the number reached 1,577.

The public prosecutor has ordered an urgent investigation.

Some people are still stuck in the wreckage, a medical official told state television.

Some 25 people are dead and 65 injured, it was reported.

It was the deadliest train accident in the North African country since a train ploughed into a bus carrying schoolchildren in November 2012, killing 47 people.

Kargman was the one to come up with the new idea, and she later teamed up with Meyers and NBC . Herman was married to Grandpa's daughter Lily, played by Yvonne De Carlo.

The accident was blamed on a train signal operator who fell asleep on the job.

The government also formed a panel to investigate the incident, but that did not prevent further accidents.

One resident, Hoda, was standing on her rooftop when she saw the trains collide.

Nearly a year later, a collision between a train and a bus killed 27 people south of Cairo.

There have been many other fatal crashes on the busy rail network. "When we came out, we found four train cars crushed and a lot of people on the ground". Two months later, at least 19 people died and more than 100 were injured in a train derailment south of Cairo.
