BBCI: Hyeon Soo Lim: North Korea releases Canadian pastor

But a spokesman for the North’s foreign ministry said Americans were still welcome

North Korea's highest court said the South Korean-born pastor had attempted to overthrow the government and undermine its social system with "religious activities" for the past 18 years.

Lim's release follows the medical release of American prisoner Otto Warmbier, a University of Virginia student who was sent home in a coma.

The delegation that arrived in North Korea today was headed by Daniel Jean, who serves as Justin Trudeau's national security advisor.

A spokesman for the PMO says Lim's health and well-being is of utmost importance as the Canadian government continues to engage on the case.

Doctors at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center assessing Warmbier's condition on his return concluded that the US citizen had suffered significant brain damage and no signs of botulism were detected.

"We want to thank the global community for the continued prayers and support and we also ask that the world does not forget the people of North Korea", the statement read.

Powerball jackpot rolls to $307M with no big victor
ET drawing Friday, it will be the 10th largest Mega Millions jackpot (although, only the 29th largest in USA lottery history). The July 22 Powerball drawing produced one second-prize winning ticket that matched the first five numbers drawn.

"A Canadian government delegation is now in Pyongyang to discuss Pastor Lim's case", Trudeau's press secretary Cameron Ahmad said.

Mr. Lim said during his news conference that the bags of food he had donated across North Korea had carried the sign of the cross and phrases from the Bible.

Lim's Toronto-area church has said Lim visited North Korea more than 100 times since 1997 and helped set up an orphanage and nursing home.

The release of Lim, the only Canadian in North Korean custody, comes while tensions between the U.S. and North Korea are high enough for the Trump administration to issue a travel ban on Americans entering the hostile country.

The US State Department has since announced a travel ban that will take effect next month, preventing almost all US citizens from visiting North Korea, with the exception of journalists and humanitarian workers. In 2016, he told the USA network CNN that he had been digging holes for 8 hours a day.

The Canadian delegation arrived on the same day US President Donald Trump warned that Pyongyang would be met "with fire and fury and, frankly, power the likes of which the world has never seen before", if it does not stop threatening the US.
