IT dept raids on K'taka minister vendetta politics: Trinamool

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah earlier on Friday said that IT raid on Shivakumar is a politically motivated move.

The minister, who was in charge of the 44 MLAs lodged there to prevent the BJP from allegedly "poaching" on them, was at the resort when the search took place, IT officials said.

While no cash was found in Bengaluru, I-T sleuths said they seized hundreds of documents related to the minister's business and other financial transactions that raised questions about his business enterprises.

Karnataka's additional chief secretary in his letter to the Revenue Secretary said that the I-T department search teams have been accompanied by the CRPF personnel despite the fact that the maintenance of the Law and Order security situation is of the state police.

Patel accused the BJP of indulging in an "unprecedented witch-hunt" to win one Rajya Sabha seat.

"Importantly, searches are still on at all these places and it is hard at this point to give an estimate of how much more will be recovered", said a senior official of the department, who did not wish to be identified. I will not let down my party and its leaders. "Today (Wednesday) IT raids were conducted against a Congress minister at the resort where our MLAs are staying".

Raid was also being conducted at the house of Congress lawmaker N Ravi in the city's southern suburb. "These things take time", said the official of the IT Department's Karnataka and Goa region. "When there is a raid, the IT officials have to record the person's statement, so they went to the resort", Jaitley said.

About half-a-dozen note-counting machines have also been brought at two locations in Safdarjung Enclave in Delhi and in Hasan and Mysuru in Karnataka to count the cash. These documents will be used in the questioning of the minister and his close associates. "This is not good for democracy", Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said while speaking with the media here.

Gohil continued, "The manner in which they entered the resort and searched the rooms tells us they are trying to scare us, but they will not succeed".

The state of Karnataka woke up to startling headlines on Wednesday when the Income Tax department raided DK Shivakumar's residence at Sadashivanagar and also the Eagleton Golf Resort where he was staying.
