The Spanish language ditty by Luis Fonsi featuring Justin Bieber and Daddy Yankee is now YouTube's most popular clip. On Friday, the video for Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's smash "Despacito" broke the YouTube record for most-viewed video, passing Charlie Puth and Whiz Khalifa's "See You Again" by reaching 2.994 billion views.

"I remember when I signed up for YouTube in 2007 and had hopes of uploading a video and it reaching 10,000 views", he said.

According to YouTube, Latin artists account for more than a third of the top 100 most-viewed musicians of 2017 so far, with the likes of Nicky Jam, Maluma, J Balvin and Ozuna all having notched up more than 1bn views this year alone. That video had recently surpassed Psy's "Gangnam Style" to be tops on YouTube.

The digital contest in link with VH1 India prompted people across the country to send in their renditions of choreography to the beats of the popular number.

Luis Fonsi's summer smash Despacito has become one of only 11 tracks to spend 13 weeks or more at the top of the US pop charts. And now the music video of "Despacito" has added a yet another feather to its hat by setting a new record. Released to limited fanfare in January, by July the mesmerising Daddy Yankee collaboration was the most streamed song to date; it has now been streamed 4.6 billion times. We're living in an interesting time right now when people want to divide us.
