Yashar Ali is being sued over stories about sexual harassment via text message

Fox News' Eric Bolling has filed a defamation lawsuit against the reporter whose article accused him of sending lewd text messages to female co-workers.

According to the lawsuit filed in ny state court on Wednesday, Bolling is seeking damages and injunctive relief from what he believes to be Ali's efforts at slander through "intentional and/or highly reckless publication of actionable false and misleading statements" about his behavior and demeanor. Bolling's notice accuses Ali of "efforts to injure the plaintiff's reputation through the intentional and/or highly reckless publication of actionable false and misleading statements about the plaintiff's conduct and character".

The suit was filed by Michael Bowe, an attorney at the law firm Kasowitz Benson Torres.

Fox News suspended Bolling the next day amid an investigation into the claims.

"This anonymously sourced and uncorroborated story is false, defamatory, and obviously meant to destroy this good man's career and family", Bolling's main lawyer Michael Bowe said in a statement to BuzzFeed News.

Lydia Polgreen, editor in chief of the Huffington Post, tweeted out Ali's story after news broke of the lawsuit, emphasizing that the story had 14 sources, something other journalists had also noted on twitter.

She followed up to clarify that HuffPost would also be supporting Ali in his legal battle: "Yashar Ali is a paid freelancer under contract with HuffPost".

Manhunt underway after Missouri Police Officer shot, killed
He was a Clinton resident and had been with the department for less than a year. "He was protecting his community", he said. Authorities believe he is on foot and still in the Clinton area, 75 miles (120 kilometers) southeast of Kansas City.

Bolling's suspension is the latest scandal to rock Fox News, which has weathered several high-profile sexual harassment claims over the past few years.

Bolling later tweeted about the accusations, saying he would clear his name.

A Fox News spokesperson told TPM the investigation into Bolling is still ongoing.

"I stand by my reporting and will protect my sources", Ali said.

"We have no hesitation about standing by him financially in this case". Fox Business host Charles Payne is now suspended, pending the outcome of an investigation into his own sex harassment charges. Already Bill O'Reilly, who had been with the network for 15 years, has been ousted over claims of sexual misconduct, and Fox Business Network host Charles Payne has been suspended for similar accusations.

"My only surprise is that it took this long for people to come forward about Bolling's behavior, which has been wildly inappropriate for years", Heldman wrote.
