A Dubai Police spokesperson told Gulf News that the fire started on the ninth floor and spread to the upper four floors of the building.

On Friday morning, police vehicles were still parked in front of the residential tower of 79-storeys. "Many things that are very valuable to me".

However, buildings constructed before 2013 are exempt, and Torch Tower - constructed in 2007 - continues to use the flammable cladding.

"It's big fire started on 9th floor".

"We were sleeping and we woke up to the fire alarm and people screaming". Ms Bricker said she was offered a room at a discounted rate by the One to One hotel, including a free breakfast and a late checkout.

Reports said the fire had engulfed one side of the building, after breaking out near the top of the tower just before 1am local time. Authorities shared video of the building from the outside later on Friday, showing the entire length of the tower charred on one side.

The tower became the tallest residential building in the world in 2011 but was surpassed in 2012 by the nearby 23 Marina and Princess Tower directly across the street. Officials said they were working on providing shelter for those affected and assessing the damage.

Future Windows 10 will come with eye tracking support
Microsoft announced new Windows 10 computers will include eye tracking software and they will be available sometime next year. If the skip ahead option was open to all, Microsoft may lose more Insiders to the Redstone 4 builds than needed at this time.

In 2015, a similar fire ripped through the building, with extensive cooling processes required to stop the tower from collapsing.

It was also reported in The Guardian that the said building was safely evacuated as no reports came out that someone got injured. Chunks occur at the 67-storey of the Torch tower.

"Putting out the fire was the most important thing, which took them so long", he said.

Burning debris can be seen spiraling to the ground as firefighters desperately try to tackle the blaze.

Last April, a fire broke out in a residential complex under construction in the centre of Dubai.

The New York Times reports that "cladding has contributed to at least three other skyscraper fires in recent years in Dubai".

Such cladding is not necessarily hazardous, but it can be flammable under certain circumstances, and depending on a skyscraper's design, may channel fires through windows into the interiors of buildings.
