Oscar Pistorius 'taken to hospital with chest pains' amid heart attack fears while serving murder sentence, local media

Unconfirmed reports suggest that Pistorius suffered from chest pains sparking fears of a possible heart attack.

The former athlete has been behind bars for a year and is now serving a six-year sentence for killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in 2013.

Department of Corrections spokesman Logan Maistry told The Associated Press that Pistorius was taken to the hospital on Thursday and was expected to return to the prison later the same day.

An official statement confirmed that Pistorius "was this morning taken to an outside hospital establishment for medical examination".

Pistorius initially began serving his prison sentence at Kgosi Mampuru II, but was later moved to Atteridgeville since that prison is better equipped to handle prisoners with disabilities.

Tillerson declares he's comfortable in job _ and with Trump
President Donald Trump's administration has said all options are on the table in dealing with North Korea, including military ones.

He reached the pinnacle of his fame in 2012 when he became the first double amputee to run in the Olympics, making the 400 metres semi-finals in London before taking two golds in the Paralympics. Last August, just one month into his prison sentence, Pistorius had to go to the hospital for a wrist injury after slipping and falling in his cell.

"I can not confirm that he suffered chest pains", Independent quoted Singabakho Nxumalo of correctional services.

But his conviction was upgraded to murder - and he was caged for six years.

But the Supreme Court of Appeal overturned her verdict and found Pistorius guilty of murder, following which Masipa increased his prison sentence to six years in July 2016. Van Wyk said South African media reports that the former track star and convicted murderer had a suspected heart attack in jail were untrue.

He said he could not give any further comment before he discussed the matter with Pistorius' uncle Arnold Pistorius.
