Manafort changing legal strategy as Mueller probe expands

Trump says he's not thinking of firing Mueller

Trump says he's not thinking of firing Mueller

Trump's former campaign manager Paul Manafort alerted authorities to Donald Trump Jr.'s infamous meeting with the Russian lawyer during his father's presidential campaign.

Former FBI Director Robert Mueller is leading the Department of Justice's Russian Federation investigation, which involves Manafort, and it appears he may be focusing on Manafort's tax records and lobbying history.

Investigators serving the search warrant sought tax documents and foreign banking records from Manafort, who is also the subject of scrutiny over his attendance at a meeting between campaign officials and Russians and whether his work for the Ukrainian government violated the Foreign Agents Registration Act. Given his shadowy business and political dealings with pro-Russia elements coupled with his proximity to Trump during the campaign, the fact that he's under investigation is unsurprising.

Committee officials also told CNN that Grassley, the chairman of the committee, and Feinstein, the top Democrat on the panel, were able to review the memos that Comey wrote after his interactions with Trump, including his allegations that Trump urged him to back away from investigating Flynn and sought loyalty from the fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director.

The Washington law firm WilmerHale has represented Manafort to this point.

Sammy Watkins, Jordan Matthews trades shake up WR rankings
The emergence of young wideouts Marcus Johnson and Mack Hollins , along with Agholor's strong offseason, made Matthews expendable. Meanwhile, Matthews played 93 percent of his snaps out of the slot in 2014-2015, and then 67 percent in 2016.

Trump was asked about the search during a question-and-answer sessions with reporters at his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf course.

"Paul is 100% loyal to the President", Stone said on Thursday. 'Russia had nothing to do with me winning, ' he said. "They're going to want to be able to say we had no choice but to do this and that the evidence for it was pretty compelling". "I think that's pretty tough stuff".

Investigating Manafort's money might just be small potatoes for Mueller.

"If you want to get to the roots of collusion, to the roots of Trump's relationship with Russian Federation, they don't start with Putin, and certainly don't start with the 2016 campaign", Gunitsky said.

Manafort has turned over documents to the intelligence and judiciary committees in the Senate. Special Counsel Robert Mueller is also investigating Manafort as part of his probe into Russia's meddling in the 2016 election and any possible collusion with Trump associates. Recall he was the first Speaker to be slapped with a $300,000 penalty for ethics violations and he has much in common with Trump when it comes to marital fidelity.
