The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch shortly before noon Wednesday and will remain in effect until 8 p.m. for the following counties in Massachusetts: Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex, Norfolk, Suffolk and Worcester.

A Flash Flood Watch was issued at 2:35 a.m. for those parts of the county, and it is in effect through 10 p.m.

"The surge of monsoonal moisture that pushed into the region (Tuesday) will linger through at least Wednesday evening, keeping a chance of showers and thunderstorms across much of the area, " according to an NWS statement.

The National Weather Service forecasts a 20 percent chance of rain today in Los Angeles and Orange counties. Some thunderstorms may produce intense downpours which could lead to flash flooding.

The president's advisers wanted to release a statement that was truthful so there was no chance it was repudiated later. The statement was readied in a response to pending New York Times story about the meeting, according to the Post .

He says flash floods can happen in a matter of minutes and be very risky.

"Flash flooding is a very unsafe situation", according to an NWS statement, which said flash flooding and debris flows will be a threat especially in areas previously denuded in wildfires.

Monsoonal moisture will bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms to the area.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. "We have moisture, the humidity is up and during the daytime with this heat...." The day will be mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 97.
