One dead after violence in Charlottesville

It is unclear if anyone was injured or arrested.

At one point, the far right group surrounded a smaller batch of counter protesters while yelling "you will not replace us". Columns of white nationalists marched out of the park, carrying Confederate flags and Nazi symbols, and headed down Market Street in an odd parade, as counterprotesters lined the sidewalks and shouted epithets and mocked them.

Friday's march took place shortly after a federal judge granted a temporary injunction allowing right-wing activists to hold Saturday's rally.

House Speaker Paul Ryan called the views of the white nationalists "repugnant", and called for Americans to unite against "this kind of vile bigotry". "Lets come together as one!"

Alex Spratley, a second-year college student who was among the counter-protesters, told the Cavalier Daily: "This is not something that we thought would ever happen, that we would ever see in our lifetime". Many credit Spencer with popularizing the term "alt-right" as he garnered national media attention after being heard shouting "Hail Trump!" at a white nationalist convention in Washington, D.C., and later, being punched in the face on Inauguration Day while giving an interview.

Trump's tweet was the first official response to the violence from the White House, and came almost an hour after First Lady Melania Trump tweeted about the situation in Charlottesville. The president has received previous criticism for being slow to condemn acts of hate done in his name.

Several injuries and at least one death have been reported after a auto drove through a crowd of counter-protesters in Charlottesville, according to video footage recorded at the scene and media reports.

And now the Daily Mail claim the Premier League champions have stepped up their in Oxlade-Chamberlain, launching an opening bid of £25m.

Jason Kessler, who organized Saturday's "Unite the Right" rally, said he doesn't consider himself to be a white nationalist. Rally organizers say this should be grounds for a lawsuit.

Charlottesville Mayor Mike Signer wrote a more appropriate response on Facebook that described the Ku Klux Klan-evoking event as a "despicable display of visual intimidation". No good comes from violence. Counter-protesters arrived, and violence broke out soon after. The city has also renamed Lee Park, where the statue stands, and Jackson Park, named for Confederate General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson.

There were reports of violence breaking out between them and counter-demonstrators. Police estimate as many as 2,000 to 6,000 people will attend the rally on Saturday.

"We expect this to be a significant challenge for not only our public safety personnel, but also our community", Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe said.

Some in Charlottesville have been trying (without success) to get courts to ban Saturday's rallies. Militia members in the city openly carried rifles, although no gunfire was reported.

Nationalists were holding the rally to protest plans by the city of Charlottesville to remove a statue of Confederate General Robert E Lee. Thousands of people are expected to pack the area.
