Operating income rose to 157.6 billion yen. Notably, Sony Interactive Entertainment predicts to ship 18 million units, which means that the company expects lifetime PS4 shipments to reach 78 million by the end of March.

Meanwhile, the PlayStation Network now has 70 million monthly subscribers, giving Sony a steady revenue stream. Under the new pricing structure, the cost of an annual membership will increase by a quarter from its current £39.99 level to £49.99; the cost of a quarterly membership will increase by the same proportion, going from £14.99 to £19.99, while the fee for those choosing to play monthly is to go from £5.99 to £6.99.

Television Productions sales increased significantly, primarily due to higher licensing revenue for US series such as The Last Tycoon and Better Call Saul.
