Dems Want Price to Resign Over Private Jet Use

Tom Price health and human services secretary has spent more than $400,000 in taxpayer money on private jets since May

Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price took a government-funded private jet in August to get to St. Simons Island, an exclusive Georgia resort where he and his wife own land, a day and a half before he addressed a group of local doctors at a medical conference that he and his wife have long attended. "I'm not happy about it, and I will let him know it", Trump continued. When asked if he would fire Price, Trump said "we'll see".

Price has reportedly spent more than $400,000 of taxpayer money since joining the administration on private plane travel that the Health and Human Services inspector general is now probing.

The president did not elaborate on whether he would dismiss Price or what consequences, if any, Price would face, but promised he would "look at it".

A department official said both trips were paid for by HHS and that Price took both on official government business.

When the story about HHS Secretary Tom Price's private-jet travel first broke, it appeared that this was a different kind of controversy because the Republican cabinet secretary's trips were strictly professional in nature.

Chelsea Manning says she's been denied entry into Canada
Manning refuted that comparison of charges online and said she would be challenging her Canadian denial at a future hearing. Each case is evaluated based on its merits, a spokesperson told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

In a letter Tuesday, House investigators asked Price and more than 20 other agency heads to list all use of private, charter aircraft and use of government-owned aircraft by political employees since Trump's inauguration.

He has said he will halt private plane travel on official business while the internal review is being conducted. Trump's stuck by him until now but this is obviously a bad look for a populist White House, especially with Steve Mnuchin's use of government jets also being scrutinized.

Gowdy and Cummings - the top two members of the House Oversight Committee - asked for documents and information on such flights by October 10. Price is known as a conservative policy expert, but his penchant for taking private charter aircraft on the taxpayer's dime is creating new headaches for the White House.

Republicans on Capitol Hill have been slow to admonish Price, a former colleague, saying instead they are still trying to understand exactly what occurred. Price, after all, maintained a reputation on Capitol Hill of being a fiscal hardliner and constant voice admonishing wasteful government spending. "Not everybody can lease a plane like that and fly around the country".
