After entering a prohibited area, an 11-year-old boy fell into a volcanic crater at Solfatara near Naples, Italy, on Tuesday, and when his parents came to the rescue, they also fell into the collapsing crater.

It was reported that the family are from Turin.

A 7-year-old son who remained behind the barrier watched in horror as the tragedy unfolded.

"I saw a child run crying, I did not think I was facing the worst tragedy of my life, I'm a father, too", Diego Vitagliano said.

Tourists are allowed to walk around the ground level Solfatara crater, which is dotted with trees, while admiring fenced off bubbling mud pools and fumeroles that spurt steam and sulphurous gases. "It was inside a fenced-off area". They pulled out two bodies, then pulled us away.

The child is said to be in a state of shock and has been asking for his parents.

"I express my closeness from the community of Pozzuoli to the family of the victims".

Hurricane Irma leaves manatees stranded in Manatee County
As Hurricane Irma rumbled up Florida's west coast, it drained water from the state's shores, leaving residents stunned and manatees stranded.

The longtime-owner of a nearby bar said he had never witnessed a similar incident.

The couple followed their son and both died trying to rescue him.

Their other son (7) has survived the accident. "We tried to calm him".

Social workers from the Municipality of Pozzuoli and a psychologist were attending to the boy.

The ancient volcanoes are frequented by Italian school children and tourists from around the world.

Visitors are told to stay clear of fumaroles, openings in the Earth's crust that emit steam and gases, and not to climb the slopes or breach the fences.
