John Carpenter, who directed Harry Dean in the movie Escape from NY tweeted and said "Harry Dean was a wonderful man, kind and full of humor. I believe that she wanted it".

He featured in classic movies such as Cool Hand Luke, The Godfather Part II, Alien, Alpha Dog, Pretty in Pink, Stephen King's Christine and The Green Mile. He also guest starred on such TV shows as "Laverne & Shirley", "Adam-12" and "Gunsmoke".

John Carpenter, who directed Stanton in Escape from NY, paid tribute to the actor, calling him "a wonderful man".

Stanton made his big screen debut in 1957's "Tomahawk Trail" and appeared in the 1959 Gregory Peck war film "Pork Chop Hill". "Martin Scorsese, John Huston, David Lynch, Alfred Hitchcock".
