On a much more serious note on Sunday, Nikki Haley, the United States ambassador to the UN, said the UN Security Council has run out of options on containing North Korea's nuclear programme and the U.S. may have to turn to the Pentagon.

For his part, hawkish Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has said he would "never tolerate" the North's "dangerous provocative action" and has urged the global community to ramp up pressure on Pyongyang.

"DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) must put a stop to these tests and to start talks instead", Cayetano said.

The show of force came as President Donald Trump prepared to deliver remarks for the first time this week at the United Nations General Assembly.

The fighter jets flew from a US military base in Japan, while the bombers flew from the US Pacific island of Guam, joined by six South Korean fighter jets in the drill, a South Korean Defense Ministry official was quoted as saying by the Yonhap news agency.

US National Security Adviser HR McMaster said Kim is "going to have to give up his nuclear weapons because the president has said he's not going to tolerate this regime threatening the United States and our citizens with a nuclear weapon".

During the 25-minute call, Trump and Moon condemned the latest missile launch by North Korea, pledging to work with the worldwide community to implement the latest UN Security Council resolution.

McMaster: Trump Open To Reentering Paris Accord To Advance US 'Prosperity'
But the accord is voluntary, and it appeared the U.S. might be able to find a way, within the pact , to recast its position. Attendees reaffirmed their commitment to the terms of the pact, which was signed by almost 200 countries in December 2015.

The screech of incoming fire followed by an explosion resounds across forested hillsides near the border between North and South Korea.

South Korea and the United States are technically still at war with North Korea after the 1950-53Korean conflict ended with a truce, not a peace treaty.

The Spanish Government told the local North Korean Embassy to reduce the number of staff in the country on September 1, but since then North Korea conducted a nuclear test and launched a missile over Japan, further spiking tensions in the region.

"The two leaders agreed to work closely and to put stronger and more effective sanctions and pressure on North Korea in cooperation with the worldwide community", South Korea's presidential spokesman Park Soo-hyun said.

Recently, the USA and its vassal forces rigged up the UNSC "resolution 2375" on sanctions harsher than ever against the DPRK branding its measures to strengthen the state nuclear force as "a threat" to global peace and security, and released a UNSC "press statement" calling for the implementation of the "resolution" as a follow-up.

The Chinese performed drills in the Sea of Japan, near North Korea, before pairing with Russian Federation at the port of Vladivostok for joint land and sea military exercises.
