Alabama will dismantle All Kids health insurance if federal aid not extended

The program provides coverage for children of families who do not qualify for Medicaid health coverage for the poor

Its impacts have been far reaching; a 2014 Kaiser Family Foundation report summarized the research on its effectiveness, finding "strong evidence" that the program expanded the number of children who had coverage, increased the quality of the care they received, strengthened low-income families' finances and even bolstered student performance based on improvements to children's health. While GOP leaders ultimately did not bother holding a vote on it because it would have been defeated, Democrats have blamed the repeal effort for delaying passing legislation to fund CHIP.

"Senator Cochran expects Congress to act soon to reauthorize the program, which is important to many families in MS, before the state exhausts its CHIP funding", a statement from Chris Gallegos in Cochran's D.C. office says.

The fate of the Affordable Care Act may be deeply divisive, but there's one aspect of the health care system that retains broad support across the political spectrum - the Children's Health Insurance Program.

However, Department of Human Services spokeswoman Kait Gillis said in an email that CHIP will be able to continue without disruption in Pennsylvania until February 2018. "Our hope is that Congress will act long before our reserves are exhausted".

For the first time in two decades, the U.S. Congress let the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) expire.

But that is unlikely, given that the Republican-controlled Legislature balked previous year at renewing the program even with no state dollars needed.

In Colorado, lower-income children and pregnant women are covered through Medicaid, while those with higher incomes are covered through CHP+. Pete Sessions, R-Dallas, at a U.S. House Rules Committee hearing, he aimed to assuage their concerns. "The ones that are on Medicaid, we'd have to figure out something if CHIP goes away". The rest are part of the state's Medicaid expansion effort.

But the House's bill, which the Energy and Commerce Committee, released Monday, calls for a series of measures to fund CHIP. But once the Cassidy-Graham brouhaha started, "we couldn't even get a meeting", Lesley said.

The incident occured in the 15th minute as the visiting fans celebrated Fode Ballo-Toure's scoring the opening goal. French emergency services later reported 18 people had been hurt, three seriously.

Lawmakers in the spring held back $93 million in reserve for the 2019 budget.

EW: The money for CHIP comes from both the federal and the state government, right?

"We have families anxious about what will happen with coverage for their children", said Cathy Caldwell, Director of Children's Health Insurance Program at the Alabama Department of Public Health.

DSH is the "largest source of federal funding for uncompensated care" in hospitals, according to the AHCCCS website, which said payments are made to qualifying hospitals in the fall. All Kids has funding to last through March, but if congress doesn't renew the program they will be left with one choice.

"We have not sent out any notices (to participating families)", Caldwell said. "We need to reauthorize these critical programs asap", said Rep. Ed Perlmutter, D-Colo.

Arizona already provides health care for individuals and families up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level. "But still, accidents happen", she said.

"It's tantamount to Mother Nature's atomic bomb, and we're doing very little", said Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-N.M.), who chairs the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, asking her colleagues to expedite aid to the USA territory last week.
