Former Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho sentenced to seven months in prison over tax fraud

Reports have stated that the Portuguese defender has been charged for tax fraud from his time playing for Real Madrid.

Former Portugal global defender Ricardo Carvalho has been given a seven-month prison sentence over tax offences which were committed during his spell at Real Madrid between 2011 and 2012.

Despite that, Carvalho is unlikely to ever actually spend time in prison, regardless of the charges and a fine worth around €142,822.

Any sentence under two years for non-violent crime rarely leads to jail time being served under Spanish law, however, and the ex-Portugal worldwide returned the full amount of tax that he initially avoided paying.

Severino faced the Twins for the first time on September 20, giving up three runs and five hits in three innings. Molitor hadn't decided on Sano's status for the game, although he was optimistic that the slugger would play.

The sentence means the 39-year-old's playing days are likely over, with the defender having still been plying his trade at Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG up until his sentencing.

He departed to rejoin Mourinho under the pristine spotlights of Real Madrid to add a La Liga title to his name in 2012.

Ricardo Carvalho has been found guilty of tax offences in Spain.

Cristiano Ronaldo was in court in July facing allegations of avoiding €14.7m worth of taxes but no formal charges have yet been made against him whilst Radamel Falcao, Fabio Coentrao and Jose Mourinho have all been investigated for Spanish tax evasion.
