Switzerland: New rape charge against Roman Polanski, the police opens an investigation

After being in limelight infamously for decades-old sexual assault case, director Roman Polanski finally commented on the sexual assault case which continues to dominate any discussion of the 84-year-old Oscar-winning director.

Former German actress Renate Langer filed a report with Swiss police claiming that Polanski raped her in February 1972, when she was just 15 years old, according to the The New York Times.

Roman Polanski fled the USA before a judge could jail him for raping a 13-year-old girl.

As People magazine notes, Polanski pleaded guilty to the statutory rape of 13-year-old Samantha Geimer in 1978, after which he fled the country.

Police in Switzerland say they are investigating new rape allegations against the French-Polish film-maker Roman Polanski. It's the fourth time that a woman has publicly accused Polanski of sexual assault, the first being Samantha Geimer. However, the paper notes that Swiss law "limits prosecution in cases that happened many years ago".

Robin, 59, claimed Roman Polanski sexually victimized her in 1973, in Los Angeles, California, U.S. August 15, 2017. Swiss authorities have said they will be making a determination if they can pursue a criminal complaint.

Both of Ms Langer's parents are now dead, and she said she felt the time was right to speak out.

"My mother would have had a heart attack", she said.

Her father died this summer and her mother two years ago. She mentioned not having confided in any friends or family, except a boyfriend whom she had told years later.

In 2010, British actress Charlotte Lewis accused Polanski of abusing her sexually when she was 16. She claimed to be out of his silence following the statements of "Robin hood" made in August last, and because her parents were no longer alive.

In a new interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Mr Polanski said: 'As far as what I did, it's over. I then was locked up here (in Zurich) after this festival. As a part of a plea bargain, Polanski pled guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, underwent psychiatric evaluation and spent 42 days in jail. "So in the sum, I did about four or five times more than what was promised to me".
