A vehicle mounted a sidewalk outside London's Natural History Museum yesterday, injuring several pedestrians in an incident which British police have not ruled out as terrorism.

Heavy police security has been deployed in the area and ambulances have reached to cater to the injured.

Mark added: 'I think everyone seems to be just trying to carry on as normal because no one knows what is happening'.

Police said a man was arrested after the "collision" at 2.21 p.m. local time (BST) on Saturday, and there were fears it could have been the sixth terror attack on Britain this year.

"We treated 11 patients, mostly for leg and head injuries, and took nine of them to hospital", said Peter McKenna, deputy director of operations for the London Ambulance Service. Police said none of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.

The Metropolitan Police said it was not "terrorist-related" and is appealing for witnesses.

In June, three ISIS terrorists drove a hired van into pedestrians on London Bridge before stabbing people in nearby Borough Market. Enquiries to establish the circumstances and motive are underway.

The Metropolitan Police has not given any further detail of the man detained.

The Natural History Museum tweeted that there had been a "serious incident" outside the museum, which is located near the world famous Victoria and Albert Museum and other attractions.

She said: "I was getting off the Tube at South Kensington station, the doors opened and about 50 people came running down the Tube station escalator".

The Guardian reported witnesses said the vehicle jumped the curb between two parked cars and struck several pedestrians before coming to a stop.

"Suddenly a police woman officer shouted at the crowd to run, and everybody flew in panic, many people screaming".

The current threat level in the U.K.is "severe"-the second highest classification, which indicates an attack is likely".

In a message on Twitter, the Prime Minister said: "My thanks to the first responders at this incident this afternoon and the actions of members of the public".
