AT&T CEO: DOJ never demanded CNN sale in Time Warner deal

Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Trump said he "didn't make that decision - it was made by a man who's a very respected person, a very, very respected person".

Yesterday, reports surfaced that the Department of Justice (DOJ) had requested a sale of either Turner Broadcasting, which owns CNN, or DirecTV before it would approve AT&T's acquisition of Time Warner. The Justice Department, which is reviewing the $85.4 billion deal, recently presented the options to the companies, the source added, confirming reports from United States media and the Financial Times.

"While there are plenty of good reasons to oppose AT&T's Time Warner takeover, punishing CNN for trying to hold this administration accountable isn't one of them", Free Press' president, Craig Aaron, said in a statement. Delrahim, who supported Trump during the campaign and served nine months as a White House lawyer, is responsible for overseeing the AT&T transaction.

AT&T has argued against selling off either company's assets, as it believes this would undercut the rationale for the tie-up. And, she said, it would likely point to President Donald Trump's frequent tweets and criticisms of CNN, saying the Justice Department's stance appears political.

Trump's comments have provoked concern that he may improperly influence the US Department of Justice to block the deal.

First look at Jodie Whittaker's Doctor Who is here
Comic artist Patrick Goddard shared an early drawing he did of the costume, which he shared with the Doctor Who costume designer. Attack The Block's Jodie Whittaker landed the gig, which was a very nice get for Doctor Who , indeed.

"I did make a comment in the past as to what I think", Trump said.

Delrahim has said he was never given instructions by the White House on how to conduct his analysis.

"We have been working very diligently on a litigation strategy and a litigation plan", he said, adding: "We would obviously ask for an expedited hearing".

In an email provided by a DOJ spokeswoman, White House spokesman Raj Shah said that Trump "did not speak with the attorney general about this matter", and that "no White House official was authorized to speak with the Department of Justice on this matter".
