DC Comics Signs Brian Michael Bendis to Exclusive Contract

He co-created the "Ultimate Spider-Man" which ushered in the now-destroyed Ultimate Marvel Universe with modern incarnations of familiar characters.

Brian Michael Bendis is a name nearly synonymous with Marvel Comics.

The shock move was confirmed this morning in a statement issued to DC Comics' Twitter, confirming not just that Bendis was now writing for the publisher, but had also signed an exclusivity deal with DC, effectively terminating Bendis' ongoing and involved relationship with Marvel. "Details to come! Stay tuned!" he continued.

After the ending of Ultimate Spider-Man in 2011, the brand was relaunched in September that year as Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man. Today, they took yet another blow with the announcement of the departure of one of their long time writers to DC Comics.

Interestingly enough, Bendis leaving Marvel follows their "big" Marvel Legacy initiative, and Bendis was also a part of Ike Perlmutter's Marvel Comics Creative Committee, so I wonder what has become of that?

And he's - every time you ask about Russian Federation , he says, but what about the Democrats? His plea was made public this week.

Bendis is the recipient of multiple Eisner Awards and began his work at Marvel in 2000 with his popular work on Ultimate Spider-Man which helped Marvel launch, the recently defunct "Ultimate" universe.

The statement reads, in full: "Brian is a great partner and has contributed incredible stories and characters to the Marvel Universe over the years". A Marvel spokesperson thanked Bendis for his tenure with the company and wished him luck with his future projects.

Bendis has been writing for Marverl for nearly 18 years, with titles like Ultimate Spider-Man, House of M, Daredevil, and Secret Invasion.

Neither DC nor Bendis have announced what titles he will be working on for the home of Superman, or when we can expect to see his first works.
