Japanese railway services are famous for their world-beating punctuality

Before the day's end, it published an official apology on its website.

The early departure happened on the Tsukuba Express, which travels between the city of Tsukuba - around an hour south of Tokyo - and Akihabara, a district on the eastern side of the Japanese capital.

A rail company in Japan has apologised after one of its trains departed 20 seconds earlier than scheduled.

The statement said the company's management wanted to "deeply apologise for the severe inconvenience" to any customers affected by the error, even though it did not receive any complaints.

However, according to Sora News 24, the 20-second early departure could have left a few customers pissed off, as the trains are so efficient that commuters will set their watches by them.

N. Korean soldier who defected used a vehicle to escape
About 30,000 North Koreans have defected to South Korea since the end of the Korean War, but most travel through China. No tourists were in the Joint Security Area at the time and there was no exchange of gunfire between the two sides.

Trains in Japan are well-known for their punctuality.

Japanese trains are awesome for a number of reasons, not the least of which is how amazingly punctual they are.

The mistake occurred because staff members reportedly did not check the timetable. The company added that the crew of this particular train has been instructed to be more "thorough" in the future about basic train operations.

Delays are so rare, passengers can even be given a delay certificate to show their workplace or school if trains are delayed by just five minutes.

The Japanese capital notoriously runs one of the most efficient public transport system in the world despite being one of the most used.
