Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard says the office's phone lines, including 911, were down as a result of the fire.

Investigators haven't revealed what they believe caused the gas line to rupture and say it is being investigated by Consumers Energy, the utility company that owns the line.

The fire broke out on vacant land.

The Oakland County Sheriff says so far no injuries have been reported. The fire eventually burned itself out after the gas flow was cut off.

The Orion Township Fire Department says the explosion and blast area encompasses roughly 30 to 40 yards around the crater.

Fort Carson sexual assault reports increased
Burkhardt, Galbreath's boss, unveiled the Pentagon's Annual Report on Sexual Assault in the Military for fiscal 2016. Previously, during the 2014 fiscal year, SAPRO estimated that only 14 percent of military victims were reporting.

Authorities from Oakland County will be on scene Tuesday in the daylight hours.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office website, "The Sheriff's Operations Center supports all divisions of the Sheriff's Office and operates one of the largest law enforcement/medical/fire dispatch 911 centers in MI".

As of Tuesday morning, roads are back open and businesses and schools in the area are expected to be open as well.

Gas service to all Oakland County residents was not disrupted.
