By-election to RK Nagar four other Assembly seats on Dec 21

Soon after the Election Commission announced that the bypoll to R K Nagar Assembly constituency would be held on December 21, AIADMK rebel faction leader T T V Dinakaran said he is ready to contest if the party and cadres allow him. But, after the Election Commission gave back the symbol to the EPS-OPS faction the dates for bypoll elections were announced by the Election Commission.

The RK Nagar seat, which Jayalalithaa represented for two terms, has been vacant following her death on December 5 previous year.

However, it was subsequently canceled by the Election Commission (EC) over allegations of bribing voters.

He claimed that the money flowed like water in Thanjavur and Aruvakurichi constituencies in the State where polls were cancelled in 2016 general elections due to the complaints of cash distribution, as authorities failed to monitor then.

The Madras High Court. had, early this week, directed the poll panel to conduct the byelection to the RK Nagar Assembly constituency, lying vacant for almost a year, by December 31.

Shoppers head to Holyoke Mall this Black Friday
Black Friday and Cyber Monday combine to make the weekend after Thanksgiving the biggest shopping weekend of the year. Valley View mall manager Louise Dudley said all the new events created more of a party-like atmosphere for shoppers.

The RK Nagar constituency is considered to be a stronghold of the ruling party as it had returned seven AIADMK candidates in 11 elections.

The united AIADMK - the Palaniswami-Panneerselvam combine, which recently won the right to use the two leaves symbol - will field Madhusudhanan.

He said this will be the first election to be faced by the AIADMK government after the death of Jayalalithaa and also after it got the "two leaves" symbol. "We will appeal to other parties as well to extend their support to our nominee", DMK working president M K Stalin told reporters at the party headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, here. Also in the fray was Deepa Jayakumar, Jayalalithaa's niece, as an independent candidate.

The AIADMK, which had fielded its Presidium Chairman E. Madhusudanan, is yet to announce its candidate, while the BJP said it would decide whether to contest or not in the changed circumstances in consultation with the high command.

Dinakaran had earlier said he would contest in the by-election whenever it is held.
