"My guilty plea and agreement to co-operate with the Special Counsel's Office reflect a decision I made in the best interests of my family and of our country".

Michael Flynn, the former national security adviser to the president, has pleaded guilty to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in regard to a meeting with a Russian ambassador a year ago and will cooperate with investigators, according to reports.

"But I recognize that the actions I acknowledged in court today were wrong, and, through my faith in God, I am working to set things right", he continued.

"I do not know what sentence I will impose on this case", Contreras said.

Flynn has promised special counsel Robert Mueller his full cooperation as he pleads guilty to lying to the FBI, ABC News' Brian Ross reported on Friday.

Flynn will say that Trump "directed him to make contact with the Russians", flatly contradicting Trump's claim that he had nothing to do with Russia before or after his surprise election.

Former FBI Director James Comey, whose firing in May precipitated the appointment of Mueller as special counsel, has said Trump had asked him in a private Oval Office meeting to consider ending the investigation into Flynn.

A person familiar with the transition's effort on the United Nations vote said it was well-known and a collaborative effort by various transition officials, including Reince Priebus, Steve Bannon, Flynn and Kushner, adding that none of them "ordered" or "directed" the others and all were working towards the same goal of standing by Israel.

Michael Flynn is ready to spill the beans on Trump, according to Ross.

. Flynn also told authorities he did not recall the ambassador "subsequently telling him that Russian Federation has chosen to moderate its response to those sanctions as a result of his request", according to a court filing.

"It is part of an alarming pattern in which the President has already fired the FBI Director; pressured the Attorney General and top US intelligence officials to interfere with an ongoing investigation; and contemplated issuing pardons for his associates or firing the special counsel, according to numerous press reports", Warner continued.

Flynn, who once headed the Defense Intelligence Agency, also admitted he lied to investigators about secretly asking Kislyak on December 22 to defeat or delay a looming UN Security Council resolution to condemn Israel's settlements in Palestinian territory.

In a striking rupture with past practice, the Obama administration refrained from vetoing the condemnation, opting instead to abstain.

The charges against Flynn stem from Mueller's months-long investigation into purported Russian meddling to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election, including hacking the computers of the Democratic National Committee, and into any possible collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign. He told a Trump transition official about that call.

Since the first allegations of Russian interference previous year, Trump has dismissed it as "fake news" and an excuse for Democratic rival Hillary Clinton's stunning loss in the election.

"Nothing that I heard, your honor", Flynn replied.

Mueller's charging documents state bluntly that Flynn interfered with the FBI's inquiry into Trump-Russia collusion.

Flynn was an early and vocal supporter on the campaign trail of President Donald Trump whose business dealings and foreign interactions made him a central focus of Mueller's investigation.
