"I didn't know him last season, I realised how good he is" was what Guardiola claimed before Redmond came to his support. "Yes he was very passionate, intense and aggressive but he was only very complimentary and positive to me".

Guardiola was seen in animated conversation with Redmond after the game and the Spaniard defended his actions by saying that he told Southampton winger that he is a better player than trying to play defensive football and wasting time.

But the City boss has played down any bad blood between the pair and simply revealed he was complimenting the 23-year-old.

"When I give you an opinion, I give you an opinion", former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager Guardiola told reporters.

Speaking to Match of the Day after the game, he said: "I was telling Nathan Redmond how good he is at the end".

Guardiola was captured on camera addressing Southampton star Redmond enthusiastically at full-time, an incident which had everyone second guessing about what was said during the heated exchange. However, Guardiola clarified during the press conference that they were just words.

Tiger Woods back on the leaderboard and back turning heads
Tiger Woods was able to improve on yesterday's comeback round at the Hero World Challenge with an even better score on Friday . The first five holes I hit a lot of good shots and felt like I had a good rhythm and a couple birdies early on.

The City head coach pushed Redmond in the chest and harangued the 23-year-old as he tried to walk off the pitch moments after Raheem Sterling's 95th-minute victor.

"I played against millions in managers and the different ways they play", he said.

"It's so complicated when teams defend with 10 players", he added.

"I've faced this kind of team a lot in my career and I have to think how to beat them. We want to win the league but you have to celebrate when you score in the last breath like that".

City, eight points clear at the top of the table, play West Ham at the Etihad on Sunday.
