Whistleblower alleges Flynn texted about Russian Federation nuclear deal during inauguration, congressman says

Former national security adviser Michael Flynn told a business associate in January that one of the Trump administration's first priorities would be to "rip up" the sanctions imposed by the Obama administration in December, according to a whistleblower who described the incident to a Democratic congressman.

Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, on Wednesday released his summary of the whistleblower's account detailing Flynn's conversations with colleagues as the Trump administration took power.

Cummings said he had spoken to the witness and called the account a "credible" allegation that Flynn "sought to manipulate the course of global nuclear policy for the financial gain of his former business partners".

"Mike has been putting everything in place for us", Copson said, according to the witness, adding: "This is going to make a lot of very wealthy people".

Flynn, while involved in the Trump transition, worked with companies including ACU Strategic Partners to make a deal with Russian Federation to build nuclear reactors in the Middle East.

Copson, who six months earlier had paid Flynn US$25,000 (S$33,000) to help promote his scheme, told the whistleblower that Flynn told him sanctions on Russian Federation would be "ripped up" as a priority in the Trump government.

Flynn pleaded guilty last week to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about the nature of his conversations with former Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak.

The company did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday.

Alex Hales cleared to play for England after Bristol nightclub incident
Stokes is now unavailable for England selection due to an ongoing investigation into a late-night fracas in Bristol in September. This means that Hales could play for England with immediate effect but find himself suspended by the CDC at a later date.

Former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn told a former business associate "within minutes" of President Donald Trump being sworn in on Inauguration Day that economic sanctions against Russian Federation would be "ripped up" once Trump gets into office, according to a whistleblower. ACU was pushing a nuclear project in the Middle East that Flynn is said to have lobbied for while in the White House.

Copson did not respond to phone and email messages from ABC News left at his home and with his attorney.

Two days after the election, Obama warned Trump not to hire Flynn, CNN reported.

Media captionAfter Flynn's guilty plea, what next for the Russian Federation investigation? He said Flynn did not cash the check, however.

Cummings said the whistleblower, whom he did not identify in the letter, "fears retaliation", but would speak with Gowdy if he agrees to protect the whistleblower's identity.

"Although this individual was extremely hesitant to come forward - and still fears retaliation - the whistleblower has made a decision to do so now because this individual feels duty bound as a citizen to make this disclosure", he wrote.

Perhaps most intriguingly of all, Cummingswrites that he told Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team about all this some time ago - and that they asked him to delay publicly revealing this information "until they completed certain investigation steps".

Mr Flynn was a consultant to the firm for 14 months from 2015-16, according to amended financial disclosure forms he filed in August this year.
